In this presentation, Dr. Gary Fowmes will explore the forefront of geosynthetics innovation from a UK perspective. The study focuses on analyzing the application of geosynthetics in practical engineering, with an emphasis on advancements in instrumentation, the role of sustainability in design, and strategies for addressing microplastic pollution. The presentation reveals the critical role of real-time monitoring systems and fibre optic technologies in enhancing design efficiency and disaster recovery. It also discusses how the integration of carbon calculators and recycled polymers can improve the environmental sustainability and long-term performance of geosynthetics.

Gary Fowmes博士👱♂️，華威大學土木工程系教授🔸🤛🏻，國際知名巖土工程學者。前英國土工合成材料協會主席，已主持多項大型國際科研項目。研究方向為土工合成材料界面快速成型🦸🏼♂️，廢物控製🚓，邊坡穩定性預警系統，利用外加劑進行可持續建設和土壤改良。並在《Geotextiles and Geomembranes》🪯、《Engineering Geology》、《Géotechnique》、《Canadian Geotechnical Journal》等國際知名期刊發表超過50余篇高質量論文👨👧。Gary Fowmes教授曾在FCC Environment😦、Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency、Golder Associates (UK) Ltd - Nottingham, UK等國際知名巖土工程咨詢公司工作，現任英國土木工程師學會🥽；高等教育學會；國際土工合成材料學會👩🏻✈️；英國土工協會；國際土力學與巖土工程學會成員。
