In order to help students integrate into the new learning environment as soon as possible, reduce possible anxiety and pressure, teach students basic mental health knowledge, and improve self-regulation skills, on the evening of October 6, the College of Ocean Science and Engineering conducted a mental health education lecture for 2023 freshmen. Professor Sun Hanfen, head of the school's psychology program, gave a lecture and all undergraduate freshmen participated.
In this mental health education, teacher Sun Hanfen first listed a lot of worries and concerns that freshmen may encounter after entering the university, and told the students to change a reverse force and re-recognize their pressure. According to the university practice, mental health needs to meet five standards: emotional stability, adaptation to the environment, kindness to oneself, kindness to others and personality harmony, summarized 20 interpersonal problems, and pointed out that to deal with interpersonal conflict, we must first recognize the nature of conflict and contradiction. Accepting differences helps to develop respect and understanding for yourself and others. In order to solve interpersonal problems, students should have the basic consciousness of three respects, that is, respect for themselves, respect for others, respect for the situation. Through the analysis of practical cases, Ms. Sun showed the students the efficiency of nonviolent communication. Finally, Teacher Sun pointed out that the essence of coping with stress is how to get along with your emotions, introduced the emotional ABC theory in detail, and recommended related books, hoping that students can pay more attention to mental health education.
The development of this mental health education has actively guided the freshmen of grade 23 to manage their emotions, release pressure and enhance self-confidence, hoping that they can always maintain a good mood in the four years of undergraduate life, enjoy college life and achieve wonderful life.
